Adhesive systems:

There are principally four types of adhesives for creating a compound:

• Thermoplastic adhesives
• Reactive adhesives
• Self-adhesive systems
• Solvent based adhesives

These adhesives are required in different forms depending on application systems:

• Powder
• Planar materials (webs and films)
• Disperse, pasty or dissolved
• Thermo-liquified granules or block forms

To find the perfect adhesive system for one compound it is necessary to make many trials and tests to achieve the required peeling strength and to achieve the required characteristics of the final product. Also the costs have to be checked because the investment for the machine and also the adhesive costs can vary. Very important is also the operating of the production system. Flexible systems, where it is easy to change from one product to another are usually preferred. On the other side is a high productivity, like high production speed sometimes more important even with some drawbacks in flexibility.
